NEW: 150+ college and university professors, faculty, staff, and researchers have penned an open letter echoing student demands to keep #facialrecognition surveillance off of school campuses. It comes days before a national day of action planned for Monday onezero.medium.com/an-open-letter…

The letter's signers include prominent academics including security expert @schneierblog, facial recognition researchers @EvanSelinger and @hartzog, and renowned professor @sandylocks, who was falsely matched with a mug shot photo during our test of #facialrecognition at UCLA.

"Facial recognition poses a unique threat to safety, civil liberties, and academic freedom on campus," the letter reads, "Students should not have to trade their right to safety and privacy for an education."

It's part of a national campaign organized by @fightfortheftr & @SSDP

Students across the country are planning a national day of action this Monday, March 2nd with protests, teach-ins, and letter deliveries planned on many campuses. There's still time to get involved. Learn more here: banfacialrecognition.com/campus/#march2
