Earlier this week the 10th #DemDebate was held in Charleston, SC, the traditional lands of the Kusso, whose descendants are the Edisto Natchez-Kusso Tribe. The 7 candidates on the debate stage were all white and, as usual, not a single one gave a land acknowledgement.

A majority of voters in South Carolina are African American and so the topic of race and racism came up frequently. But because every candidate of color in the Democratic party had previously been removed from the debate stage (leaving only white candidates)...

each of whom benefited from the racism embedded in our nations presidential primary system that makes white land-owners in Iowa and New Hampshire the gatekeepers for Presidential politics, much of their words rang empty and shallow.

As one of the few candidates of color left in the 2020 Presidential race (I'm an independent), I feel it is important to interject a different, and more informed perspective into this important dialogue of who should be the next President of our country.
