From a Navajo man re: #FourthofJuly:
"While the #DeclarationOfIndependence may initially assert that 'All men are created equal,' thirty lines below that assertion, indigenous people are referred to as #mercilessIndianSavages.
(first 4 tweets are from #UnsettlingTruths Ch6)
1/ "The Founding Fathers could use the seemingly inclusive term 'all men' because they had a worldview informed by the Doctrine of Discovery that gave them a very narrow definition of who was actually human.

This pattern is familiar:
US & X sign a treaty.
US pulls out of treaty & imposes sanctions.
X ceases to comply w/ broken treaty.
US decides to rejoin treaty but refuses to negotiate until X is in compliance.
X demands US drop sanctions imposed after we broke treaty.
US refuses. Perhaps it's worth considering that other countries dislike the US, not because we're free, but because we negotiate with most of the world like they're children and we're their parent.

#ForThePeopleAct raises amt a national party can contribute to a POTUS candidate to $100,000,000. This ensures major party candidates will have a 100 million dollar advantage over 3rd party & independent candidates.
#GOP limits voters
#DEMS limit candidates
BOTH limit democracy Image For comparison: The previous limit was "2 cents multiplied by the voting age population of the United States". In 2020 the voting age population was approximately 239 million, making the max contribution just under 5 million. Image

@JoeAbuku @senatemajldr @SpeakerPelosi @realDonaldTrump @JoeBiden My position is @senatemajldr blocked a DEM nominee in 2016 & justified it by saying he wanted to give the American people a chance to speak. He didn't have the courage to state his real reason which was that he had power & wanted to thwart our nation's first black President. @JoeAbuku @senatemajldr @SpeakerPelosi @realDonaldTrump @JoeBiden B/c @senatemajldr acted cowardly & tried to present his motivation as more noble than it was, he should now act with integrity and once again give the American people a chance to speak. Had he been honest in 2016 he could do what he's doing today & at least he'd be consistent.

Every year on 9/11 our nation pauses to remember those who lost their lives in the horrific terror attacks that took place 19 years ago today. Many of us can think back to that morning of #September11, 2001 & remember exactly where we were when the attacks occurred.
Thread: 1/10 Over the past 19 years our nation has collectively experienced and expressed a gamut of emotions including: grief, honor, fear, outrage, borderline panic, remembrance, #NeverForget and #DemandJustice.

White supremacy is so systemic in the United States that in #Election2020 it literally has #BIPOC and other marginalized people repeating the mantra that "if you don't vote for a white, land-owning male from the one percent (I.e. #JoeBiden) you are throwing your vote away." I am the only candidate in #Election2020 whose platform includes abolishing slavery, honoring treaties & removing the racism, sexism & white supremacy from the Constitution. Neither #JoeBiden or #DonaldJTrump have any intention of addressing our problems at a foundational level.

The primary reason my campaign for #AllThePeople struggles to be seen as viable is because most Americans, including women and POC, believe the lie that only a white land-owning male from the one percent can help them. What else do you think #MAGA & #VoteBlueNoMatterWho means. My first 100 Days plan is to remove the racism, sexism and white supremacy from the US Constitution. I have a plan to abolish slavery and honor treaties. Neither @JoeBiden nor @realDonaldTrump even come close to addressing our foundational level problems like my campaign does.

With new independent and third-party candidates like Kanye West and Brock Pierce running for President, it's brought more attention to my campaign. I’m often asked if a vote for me is just a vote for Donald Trump. This thread explains why that argument has no merit. I find it interesting that I’m being told that I shouldn't be running more and more now that the Democratic Party has removed all of the diverse voices from their platform and nominated Joe Biden, a white land-owning male from the 1%.

Disillusioned by #DonaldTrump and uninspired by #JoeBiden? I'm a dual citizen of the US & the Navajo Nation running as an independent candidate for POTUS. I announced May 2019 & my vision is to build a nation where We the People truly means #AllThePeople.
markcharles2020.com/allthepeople I'm the only candidate whose platform includes abolishing slavery and my plan for my first 100 days in office is to remove the racist, sexist, and white supremacist language from the US Constitution.

Do you feel uncomfortable celebrating the Fourth of July this year? I encourage you to take this moment and reflect on our nation's history by reading the Declaration of Independence in full and considering the values of the people who created it. The Declaration of Independence says that all "men" are created equal but refers to native people as "merciless Indian Savages", disregards women, and makes no mention of the enslaved. How can we possibly agree with its words today?

#DEMS, You want Trump out of office & you accuse me of stealing Biden's votes. Watch my campaign video. Learn about my vision for #AllThePeople. Look at my First 100 Days plan. Then ask yourself, who's stealing votes from who?

The following statement should go without saying, but unfortunately in 2020 it needs to be stated clearly:
As President I will NOT file a lawsuit to take health insurance away from 23 million Americans during a global pandemic.
#AllThePeople ALSO, I'm the only candidate whose platform calls for the complete abolishment of slavery. Image

We cannot build a nation where "we the people" truly means "all the people" until we de-center whiteness. Here's a thread where I break down what that means and why #allthepeople is at the core of my campaign. De-centering whiteness does not mean oppressing white people — but when you're a white land-owning man who's used to being in the center, being treated as 'normal' might feel oppressive.

Do you want to abolish slavery in the United States?

If your answer is yes, then you have only one option this November.
Vote #Markcharles2020. Image And here is how I intend to do it in my first 100 days in office.

There are many #Juneteenth celebrations happening today throughout the country and I celebrate with the African American community regarding the end of the dehumanizing practice of chattel enslavement in the southern states on June 19, 1865. I lament that it took another half a year for USA to ratify the 13th Amendment and end the practice of chattel enslavement completely in the northern states.

Many who are new to our campaign for #AllThePeople have asked what type of news/media coverage we get. The short answer is, most national media ignore our campaign. But there are a few exceptions. This thread highlights some of the coverage we've gotten in the past year.
1/11 After the Frank LaMere Native American Presidential Forum, where I participated alongside @BernieSanders, @ewarren, @JulianCastro & others, @eaquire published this article titled: "Elizabeth Warren Was Well-Received...Mark Charles Was the Main Event".

Deconstructing the systemic racism, sexism and white supremacy in our nation will require fixing our foundations and removing both the implicit and explicit influences of the Doctrine of Discovery. Transforming the USA into a nation where We the People truly means #AllThePeople will be no small task. But I'm running for President (as an independent) because I believe we have an opportunity to make it happen.

The United States of America is not racist and white supremacist in spite of our foundations. The USA is racist and white supremacist because of our foundations. Image I am the only candidates in the 2020 Presidential campaign who is serious about criminal justice reform because I'm the only candidate whose platform includes abolishing slavery. Image
