🚨 Health workers: thread of #COVID19 advocacy 🚨
We have a role in public health communication and influencing decision-makers at various levels.
1) Explain to loved ones the need to social distance. This guide helps 👇🏽
2) Push your employer and all employers to embrace remote work and paid leave policies.
3) Shift outpatient care toward tele-visits, especially for the most vulnerable, but also for others where a tele-visit will suffice.
4) Encourage conference organizers to virtualize or cancel. #CROI2020 was an inflection point in #CancelCulture. Other conferences like @SocietyGIM's should follow suit.
5) Shift classes, meetings, and advocacy/organizing to video.
Tools like Zoom are great for organizing! There are many way to engage your audience!
6) Promote "mutual aid" efforts, e.g. neighbors helping neighbors who are vulnerable and are staying home, or are sick and are quarantined.
7) Be vocal about the US's failed response to mobilize testing. We're 2 months away from adequate capacity.
8) Be anti-racist and anti-nationalist.
9) Shift the narrative away from divisiveness and toward cooperation and care.
10) Make the connection to the US's needs for #PaidSickLeave, #PaidFamilyLeave, and #MedicareForAll. Explain how these are essential for all epidemics and pandemics.
