Isn’t it hard to make room in our brains for ANYTHING that isn’t #COVID19 related right now?
Well. For wellness’ sake, I say we must.
And so. I bring you a thread of random, very happy photos snapped from #MatchDay celebrations’ past.*
*All courtesy of my smart phone. 👊🏽

These three happy M4s are now board certified in Anesthesiology, Otolaryngology, and Cardiology.
They were in my very first small group. This photo makes me happy to this day. ☺️

This M4 was also a module leader for the M1 Cardiology Module. What a happy surprise it was for this future pediatrician to walk in to decorations from the M1s!
Kindness rocks.

A proud mentor.

There’s always something so sweet about the waiting period. The nervous anticipation, the realization that it is out of your hands, and the readiness.
I have an entire collection of these. This sepia one is the late Alanna Stone. It is an image and memory that I cherish.

I never look at the #MatchDay results list for my advisees and mentees. I find them in the crowd and allow them to tell me themselves.
Sure, I get a spoiler or two sometimes. But mostly? I don’t.

Parents often sacrifice so much to get their children to this day. These images capture this M4’s appreciation for her mom.
Le sigh.

This one was taken with another person’s smartphone and sent to me. I had just found my advisee (now a board-certified #ObGyn in Reproductive Health!) in the crowd to hear her news.
From her mouth. ☺️👍🏽 #firstchoice

Another proud mama moment.
This never gets old for me. . .

Them: “Where’d the signs come from?”
Everyone: “Dr. Manning always brings signs and cries. Every year.”
No lies told. 😭😭

So much joy.
And another sign. ☺️

Here’s one final one for good measure . . . circa 1996.
Disclaimer: This was pre-smart phone. And pre-grey hair. . .

These are tough times—no question. I say affording ourselves a few moments of reflection is a good thing.
It is.
And sure. #MatchDay will look a little different this year. But that’s okay. Because virtual joy is still joy.
And I’ve got a #MatchDay photo to prove it. 😉
