Update: The Guantanamo Bay base commander says the outpost of 6,000 residents is still #COVID19 free.

Passengers report another 60 or so troops, family members, others arrived at the outpost today from Jacksonville — with their temperatures taken before takeoff and on landing.

Capt. John Fisher, Gitmo commanding officer, to base residents: “This situation is unprecedented in recent history... The events of these last few weeks have caused uncertainty, and maybe even fear, for many of our families... Guantánamo Bay is a strong, resilient community...”

For now, seating at Guantanamo’s outdoor movie theaters is limited to every other row. Families can sit together but three seats away from other families.

Also, the social welfare programming division has begun to cancel or postpone some typical Gitmo community events...

Guantanamo's Easter Egg hunt scheduled for April 11 is canceled. The Navy base is now doing long-range planning.
Meantime Gitmo base hq advised residents this evening that:.
--The Navy base dining rooms (aka the galleys) are all open, operating as normal. #TacoTuesday

--So is the base Child Development Center and K-12 Sampson school system.
--The commissary is also open, with normal hours. The base is asking people to purchase only what they need. (As in, no hoarding.)

Medical services are open, with screening and a caveat: "If you feel sick with a fever, cough and any new shortness of breath and have traveled outside the United States, please stay in place and call the Primary Care Clinic at 72944."
(As in, don't go to the hospital. Call.)

The hospital has closed its galley (dining room) to everyone but medical staff and is instituting screening at the entries. The hospital/clinic has rescheduled routine appointments but is open only for "acute and emergent appointments" and pharmacy pickup -- after screening.
