If you haven't done so already, I suggest you to read this excellent article on "Innovation for Pandemics" written by @BillGates for @NEJM . 10.1056/NEJMp1806283
We are all well aware from the now-famous @TEDTalks by Bill Gates on the subject that Gates predicted a pandemic of this sort back in 2018.
I am sharing a specific paragraph for the article in which he predicts that the next outbreak could be something like #Covid_19
Gates has given many ideas on how to tackle the pandemic. Something which could give us hope.
But what is most important, and what I fear the most is that while we fight the #COVID19outbreak , we are not prepared for the next pandemic
History has taught us that the great pandemic of 1918-1920 the Spanish Flu killed more people than the first-word war. Yet our history books are full of details about the wars while the Spanish Flu is hardly even mentioned!
While we spend millions on preparing for wars, we spend only a fraction of the same on preparing for the pandemic.
Governments from the across the world need to join their efforts and resources to fight current and future pandemics.
We were all wrong, humans are not the biggest enemy of human beings, a virus is the biggest enemy of the human being.
Our defense budgets need to reduce and health budgets need to increase
