Dear @vnehra
Thank you for your untiring efforts to fight #COVID19outbreak. Your efforts are appreciated.
However, this business of publishing the names of the #covid19 positive patients by @AmdavadAMC makes me uncomfortable.
The right to privacy is a human right of every patient. The European charter for patient rights states "Every individual has the right to the confidentiality of personal information, including information regarding his or her state of health"
The World medical association states "I WILL RESPECT the autonomy and dignity of my patient" ;wma.net/policies-post/…
Legal experts may opine whether the right to privacy can be breached during the time of a pandemic
However, from a human angle, if I were a COVID19 patient I don't want my name to be splashed across a newspaper like a criminal or a defaulter.
It is a fine line in a pandemic, but publishing names in the newspapers perhaps crosses the line. Yes, there is a problem, but we need a more tactful solution.
It is possible that these people may face discrimination and social isolation in the future even after the pandemic dies down. General people are very ignorant about these issues and may continue to discriminate against them.
