Held a meeting with Principal Secretaries/ Secretaries of States/ UTs via Video Conference. We discussed anti-flooding measures like cleaning of drains, rain water harvesting, conservation of water bodies, removing municipal solid waste dumps from areas near water channels, etc.

The Central Govt has released a grant amount of over ₹13,500 cr for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) under Fourteenth Finance Commission in the last month to States. Release of grant under Fifteenth Finance Commission is under active consideration.

States were encouraged to take up anti-flooding works on top priority using FFC & SFC grants immediately
Thanks to the Govt of Odisha, for sanctioning ₹100 cr to start such works right away. Their order has been shared with other States/ UTs.

These works will give employment opportunities to migrant labour camping in the cities & persons who have temporarily lost their livelihood opportunities.
States/ UTs were advised to strictly observe all prescriptions/ precautions related to social distancing.

They have also been asked to strictly adhere to other rules and break the Coronavirus infection chain through use of masks, hand gloves, sanitiser & soap, etc. Such works will keep the life of citizens unhindered even if there are heavy/ intensive showers.
