So Twitter is awash with Tory bots today, downplaying #Panorama allegations, and calling for an end to ‘gotcha’ journalism because #PiersMorgan (I know!) is doing a good job actually calling government ministers to account. Shameless and utterly transparent gutter orchestra.

To hear these people, not just the bots, but more recognisable figures like Dorries, Montgomerie etc, calling for ‘responsible’ journalism when they have happily recycled every kind of lie & smear these last few years is to realise how toxic & corrupt our politics have become.

Faced with evidence that the government has been negligent and that people may have died as a result, the bot/propaganda chorus huffs and puffs about ‘responsible journalism’ and criticise those who ‘politicise’ the pandemic. They are utterly amoral & utterly despicable.

They are as indifferent to the human costs of Covid-19 as they were to the consequences of Brexit. Their sole concern is deflecting blame and blaming others. They are as sociopathic as the governments and parties they cravenly serve. The same in the US, Brazil, Italy, Spain.

In all these countries the boundaries between the ‘respectable’ right & far-right are breaking down, and lying & gaslighting have become common currency of politicians and soc media armies. A pandemic won’t stop them. It will not humanise them or make them honest and decent.

On the contrary, they will double down, as the Trump lie machine is showing.

Today’s response to the #BBCPanorama allegations is just one more day in this operation. Lie, deflect, blame the messenger, gaslight, get the bot army to scream ‘fake news’

Be aware. Be very aware.
