SOS! ~62 people in distress!

This night we were called by a boat in distress that escaped Libya. Acc. to the people, 13 women & 6 children are on board.

Authorities are informed. Do not let them drown and starve to death as you did with another migrant group two weeks ago!

The GPS position of the boat we received suggests that this might be the boat that was spotted by @Frontex aircraft Osprey3 this afternoon, as reported by @scandura. This means that European authorities have known about this boat for hours already. Stop watching, start rescuing!

During the night #AlarmPhone & the people in distress tried to reach out to RCC #Malta to provide updated GPS positions. @Armed_Forces_MT did not even pick up the phone or answer our emails. Again, an emergency centre for people in distress is not reachable!

Our last contact with the people in distress was at 04.22, when they said they were embarking water. Italy & Malta, it is your duty to search for the boat & rescue them! It is your duty to assist people in distress at sea in your #SAR Zones. @guardiacostiera @Armed_Forces_MT

We spoke to the people in distress again at 9.10 CEST. We are relieved they survived the night but they need rescue immediately! We could not get their current GPS position and only have one from 3.22am that clearly shows them in Malta SAR.

We are not able to re-connect to the people in distress after our last contact at 9.10h. RCC Malta and MRCC Italy are informed but refuse to tell us whether a rescue has been launched or not. We fear that Malta is once more trying to illegally push people back to war-torn Libya.

We still have no updates on the fate of the people in distress. Have they been rescued? Are they being pushed-back to Libya? Are they being left to die at sea? European authorities refuse to provide any information & keep acting in secrecy! We demand answers & immediate rescue!

The last time we spoke to the people in distress was 24 hours ago. We don't know where and how they are.

The “Rescue Coordination Centre” Malta still fails to clarify the situation.
