It is heartening to note that work on construction of 2,800 flats under slum redevelopment project of Delhi Development Authority in Kathputli Colony has commenced in these testing times when the whole country is under lockdown because of the spread of COVID19 pandemic.
It is really nice to see the spirit of construction workers in delivering the flats to the slum dwellers at the earliest. Construction also includes site for skilling the inmates in their trade and promote their livelihood opportunities.
All the protocols regarding social distancing and prescribed precautions to break the chain of infectious CoronaVirus are being observed.
Mandatory thermal scanning at all entry and exit gates is being done to check body temperature.
All workers and engineers working on the site need to sanitise or wash their hands before entering the project site and after exiting.
Sufficient amount of hand sanitisers & soaps have been provided at the project site.
Regular disinfection drives are organised at the project site, offices, toilets, etc.
Personal Protective Equipment like masks & gloves have been provided to all workers & proper instructions have been issued for their proper use.
Bathroom & toilet usage has been scheduled to avoid crowding.
There is strict ban on the usage of gutka, tobacco, pan & meals are to be consumed at designated areas on the site.
Workers or engineers will have to pay a hefty fine if they do not abide by these rules.
All construction material arriving at the site will be kept idle at a designated area for 3 days.
Thereafter, packaged material and pipes, fittings, etc will be disinfected to curb the spread of the virus among workers.
Checklists and audits will be conducted on a daily basis.
Only 50% of the engineering staff is allowed at the site & they would need to commute by their private vehicles.
Entry of unnecessary visitors is strictly prohibited
An emergency protocal for a person having developed symptoms has been designed for the construction site.
With all these things in order, my high appreciation to workers and the team doing this first of its kind slum redevelopment work in the capital city.
