Some updates from Monday's #StopPoliceCrimes meeting. Please read to stay updated on our day to day activities and to see how you can get involved.

Gerald Reed is still in NRC at Stateville. His health has improved but we are still pushing for prisons to test everyone inside & not just those who are seriously ill.
This article outlines the importance of mass testing in addition to #MassReleaseNow:

@GovPritzker is moving very slowly on depopulating prisons and jails. We suspect this is partly due to pressure from right wingers who obviously don't want anyone to be let out of prison, so we need to build more pressure to counterbalance them. Keep calling!

The #FreeThemAll Forum is happening in less than 2 weeks!
Don't forget to RSVP on the event page: facebook.com/events/6505700…
We unfortunately won't be able to translate the live event, but we will be putting out a recording with Spanish translation.

The panel has been confirmed for May 16th!
Stacy Davis Gates @stacydavisgates, Frank Chapman, Aislinn Pulley, Armanda Shackelford, and Darrell Cannon will be on a panel moderated by Nadine Naber. Tell everyone you know so they don't miss out!

We need all the help we can get in building for the virtual protest on May 16th. If you would like to help with phone banking for the event, please fill out this form and we will get back to you: forms.gle/xtQBUbqFjvupNN…

The virtual protest is up and running and videos are coming in! Add your voice by clicking this link: caarpr.org/virtualprotest
We understand people might be self conscious about putting their faces in a video, but we have very kind editors who will only show your good angles.

Our primary focus is on getting people out of the covid-19 deathtraps that are prisons, jails, and detention centers during this pandemic. That means we need people to keep calling elected officials because they won't do anything if we don't make them do it.

It is crucial that we demand a #MassReleaseNow and counter the racist narratives such as the piece @chicagotribune put out about @ChiBondFund.

We also urge @chicagosmayor to stop thinking she can solve every problem with police. Using police patrols to enforce social distancing (which is of course only done on the South and West sides) is not only ineffective, it is harmful to communities who need resources, not police.

The Chicago Alliance is working with the #RightToRecovery coalition in building for the #Ride2Recovery tomorrow. Our contingent will be meeting at 12:30 at 1401 S Blue Island. We'll ride around Cook County Jail and then meet the others at 2:30.
