Do watch @nanditadas' short film on #DomesticViolence. We have never discussed or fought DV enough as a society, and now during this lockdown, I cannot imagine what it must feel like to be stuck with an abusive partner. @unwomenindia @NCWIndia

Watching Nandita's film reminded me of the year I spent reporting for a @thecaravanindia cover story on #SalmanKhan. I had assumed that no film person would come on the record to defend him against long-standing allegations of girlfriend beating. I was wrong, (Cont'd)

(Cont'd) & this reminded me of how tough is the battle against DV in a society that sanctions the male proprietorial attitude towards women. While several film people made ugly off-the-record comments about #AishwaryaRai and Salman's other girlfriends in this context, (Cont'd)

(Cont'd) he added, “At the spur of the moment, you may lose the balance of your mind, but that doesn’t categorise him as a person who is a woman beater.” It was such a disturbing conversation, because he was so cool about it. #StopDomesticViolence
