While we celebrate madaraka, we cannot pretend that it is a happy day. Not when the state of the nation is no different from the colonial days.

It is not yet Madaraka when media houses are not independent enough to report the truth without bias and favour and without fear.

It is not yet madaraka when freedom of speech is punishable with activists killed & politicians impeached for opposing misconduct within arms of the government.
Politics are a significant part of the country, at what point do we set aside differences and prioritize the people

So while we commemorate this day, it is unfortunate how the nature of events in the country is a sad affair for those not privileged to enjoy their rights and freedoms.
