Quick thread on primary elections in the US, as voters in 8 states & Washington, DC headed to the polls...or their mailboxes because of #COVID19 to cast ballots

Federal officials are warning unlike in elections past, certified results are likely to take longer to come in 1/6

“This is not about real time reporting of results" a senior @CISAgov official told reporters during a midday briefing

"Every state's got a different certification process. It's going to take a little bit more time maybe to count some of the mail in ballots come in" 2/6

"What we expect is, it will be in this kind of modified approach in November, as well" per the @CISAgov official "So this is good practice" 3/6

As for whether voting by mail is secure - something that has been questioned by @POTUS, the official said, "The president’s concern is on the process side, the administration side...we're focused on security. We're focused on the infrastructure" 4/6

“So, if states do elect to go the ‘go-by-mail’ route, we're going to provide security services" per the senior @CISAgov official "I don't have an option ... I've got to be there to provide a security solution for them if they need it" 5/6

.@CISAgov also indicated, so far, there's no indications of #electioninterference

“No indication of any disinfo campaigns targeting elections today" per a 2nd senior official "No reports from the states of widespread issues or challenges w/disinfo or social media posts" 6/6
