I dont usually do speculation but let us speculate a bit on who could possibly come in as sponsor of the #PSL since the #AbsaPrem dela is done.

First the rumors. Its said that Multichoice will come in and take up that space. But they already pay the #PSL R600 million a year to broadcast PSL games. Why would they then come in and pay an additional R100 million just to put their name on it?

Some may say it strengthens their hand but i dont see how. They're also already involved through the MDC. As it is, they have great exposure and have all the content anyway. So why spend the additional money? I would love to see someone make a valid case for the expenditure.

In addition, the ICASA ruling ensures that the SABC must be a player in the broadcast of sport but we all know they are broke so Multichoice holds much more sway over the PSL. That said, they do have the money. N

Next would be Motsepe and African Rainbow Capital. They have holdings in over 40 companies, a 37% shareholder of the Bulls Rugby team and Sundowns. They are also already a major sponsor of the PSL through the ABC Motsepe League.

But Patrice already owns Sundowns and also being league sponsor would legally be very difficult. There would be a major conflict of interest in having the biggest team in the league and also being the title sponspr of the league. I dont know how they would explain that one..

Another possibility would be the big mobile companies, particularly Vodacom and MTN. They have the money, they have exposure to sport through their sponsorship of some teams and the MTN 8 and they have the subscriber base to capitalise on the asset. #AbsaPrem

A last consideration could be the insurers and of those i would look at Discovery and Santam as the biggest and most possible. Discovery being tbe most possible of the two with the consumer base and just having delved into banking.

What do you guys think of my considerations above and who do you think is going to be the new sponsor?
