I came to Chiang Mai on the sleeper train. I’m now returning to Bangkok on the Sprinter day-train. The most beautiful part of the Northern Line is the top end. So, this is the best way to see the changing landscape [THREAD] #Thailand

The cost of the Sprinter train from Chiang Mai to Bangkok is 641 Baht for 2nd Class with air-con (the sleeper was ฿1,041). Journey time is ten hours and 35 minutes. The so-called Rapid train, which costs ฿231/฿391, takes four hours longer #Thailand

The seats are all facing the same way, but it is possible to swing them around so you are facing friends. The seats also recline but I hope I don’t get someone like this in front of me! Most people, even if they came together, are separated. But I guess you can then move together

After we had left the station, an attendant came round with a food cart. You have the choice between a hot tea or coffee and soft drinks. You also get cookies. This is “free” as it’s included in the ticket price #Thailand #รถไฟไทย #thaitrain

The attendant came around again with her food cart. It’s a bit like being on an airplane. She served drinks & our lunch. All of this is included in the ticket price. I got two cartons of Thai jasmine rice, Egg stew with spice and chicken, and stir-fried chicken with basil leaves.

All of it was cold. I had the stir-fried in the packet just now and will save the other for later. I wasn’t sure what to do at first but apparently it’s ready cooked. Just open the packet and add to the rice. It wasn’t that bad but obviously freshly cooked is so much better.

In total, the attendant came round three times with her food cart. The last time was for drinks this afternoon. You had a choice between soft drinks and a hot coffee or tea. She also gave us more cookies.

There are two kinds of toilets in each carriage of this sprinter train. One is a squat toilet and the other a sit down toilet. Not quite the same standard as the sleeper train I was on. But passable. There was also a thin bar of soap which I was thankful for #รถไฟไทย #thaitrain
