🚂 Good morning from Rapid No. 135 train going from Krung Thep Aphiwat to Pak Chong in Northeastern Thailand. The journey time is 3 hours and 40 minutes. Ticket price for 3rd Class is 85 Baht.

This is a live THREAD 🧵of my 3-day trip to Khao Yai by train.

#RailTourism #Thailand ImageImageImageImage [2] The train journey into Isaan is quite scenic as you have to climb over a hill. As the train has to go slowly due to the hills, they are building a tunnel and a 50 metre high viaduct as a shortcut. This will be opened next year and should provide some fantastic views. Today I’m checking out the free electric bus shuttle between four floating markets in Taling Chan District of #Bangkok. This is a live and potentially long THREAD with reviews in three parts: MRT Park & Ride, electric bus and floating markets. [2] The electric bus service connects to MRT Bang Khun Tan station and so I decided I would drive to the Park & Ride at MRT Lak Song first to review that car park.

Park on the 3rd floor as that’s where the bridge is to connect to the station.

🚨 IMPORTANT SUMMARY of what we know so far about the entry requirements for #Thailand for flights landing on Monday.

I’ve added insights from a senior government official and what we think will happen next and more importantly which rules they will drop soon.

THREAD 🧵 ⤵️ [1] The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) sent out a list of rules to airlines for flights that land in #Thailand from Monday onwards. A government spokesperson who tweeted this list then consequently deleted it. Why? My thoughts in the next tweet…

🚂 🏕️ This weekend I took the sleeper train to Khun Tan Railway Station in Lamphun in Northern Thailand. From there I hiked up to the top of the nearby mountain and slept in a tent for two nights. This is a THREAD 🧵 of that trip. [1/21]

#RailTourism #Thailand [2] For my trip I took Special Express No.51 which left Bangkok at 10:00pm. This is my favourite Chiang Mai sleeper as the sun rises just as you arrive in the most scenic stretch of the trip. (You can also start your trip from Chiang Mai as it’s only one hour away.)

This morning we did a boat tour of Khao Laem Reservoir in Sangkhlaburi. The valley here was flooded during the building of Vajiralongkorn Dam. The highlight of the boat trip are three abandoned temples, two of which are partially submerged.

[THREAD] #Thailand ImageImageImageImage [2] Our first stop was Mueang Badan which is the submerged temple that you will see most often in pictures. During the dry season you can walk around it. At the end of the rainy season you can only see the top.

I’ve arrived safely in Lop Buri, home of the monkeys. The train from #Bangkok only costs 50 Baht for 3rd Class with fan. I now have four and a half hours to explore the city before going back. This should be more than enough time as everything is within 10-15 minutes walking. [2] My first stop was Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat which is opposite Lop Buri railway station. The prang was built in 1157 when the town was ruled by the Khmer. It was later restored during the reign of King Narai. Entry is 50 Baht or you can take photos from outside like I did.
