Since much of media is laser focused on new #COVID19 cases in Texas, here is the rest of the story for some context as of today:
1.6 million tests
7.2% positive rate
63% recovered
2% fatality rate, disproportionately those 80+ years old
Everyone watching hospital capacity for any surge, but so far so good. However, we know the virus does't play by our rules.
Looks like a bump in cases for younger age groups, the vast majority of which will recover at home w/o hospitalization. Maybe we need a reminder: Wash hands, social distance, mask when you can't, stay home if you are ill. Otherwise live your life.
BTW, fatality rate is likely significantly lower. In recent NC sample, 10% tested for antibodies were positive. wral.com/coronavirus/an… Bigger denominator including asymptomatic cases = smaller percentage of fatalities as a % of all cases
