Today, let's discuss a common #skin condition that is very challenging to treat- #ECZEMA.
Eczema (aka #atopicdermatitis) is a long-term type of dermatitis (inflamed skin) that usually runs in families.
When a person has eczema, they usually develop a patchy skin rash that
is itchy, red, scaly, and dry. Eczema affects adults and children alike—most people get it before age 5.
#Doctors don’t know what causes eczema but research has traced a scientific link between eczema and #stress.
When we experience a stressful situation, the body goes into fight-or-flight mode and responds by increasing the production of stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol. But when the body produces too much cortisol, it can suppress the immune system and cause an inflammatory
response in the skin. People living with skin diseases like eczema are particularly susceptible to this inflammatory response.
Other common triggers for eczema are: changes in temperature or humidity, skin infections, dust mites, molds, and dander, some kinds of makeup, clothes
that rub on the skin, especially wool and in babies, sometimes food allergies.
When a child or an adult has eczema, the rash itches a lot, occurs in specific areas like the hands, elbow, face, or knees and can go away only to reappear later in the same place.
Doctors can’t cure eczema but can provide advice to relieve the symptoms, but if the eczema is severe, a doctor can prescribe a type of #tobination reatment.
To prevent eczema from getting worse, it is best to avoid scratching, use moisturizers, avoid things that irritate the
skin and use a humidifier in the house to keep the air moist.
