Today is the first day of the face mask/covering requirement at businesses. It is very important to #MaskUpHOU. It'll help #slowthespread of #COVID19 and is also a sign of respect for others.
🚨.@HoustonHealth is reporting 1,789 new #COVID19 cases today. 🚨
I've never reported these kinds of numbers before. We all worked so hard in March and April to #flattenthecurve.
The number of #COVID19 deaths increase by 5 bringing the total to 196.
At the very minimum what we are asking people to do is wear a mask. I want to go a step further and encourage Houstonians to wear a face covering when they are in the presence of others.
And that may not even be enough to stem the #coronavirus.
To all those who are going to bars and restaurants without a mask, you may be asymptomatic, but you are taking it home to your parents or grandparents.
The only thing I can do is encourage people to do the right thing and #MaskUpHOU.
Within the last 10 days, the number of @HoustonFire firefighters in quarantine has jumped from 36 to 88, and two have been admitted to the hospital. One is in the ICU. #COVID19 is hampering public safety efforts. --@FireChiefofHFD
