Hey Jessi! This actually isn’t true. We did a fact check on whether wearing a mask increases your likelihood of getting carbon dioxide poisoning and you can watch that here. instagram.com/tv/CBLopIoAMUT/ But we did a quick deep dive into this claim, and here’s what we found.
We used a quick keyword search and found that pneumonia is caused by coughs and sneezes that expel tiny droplets of germs into the air that someone else may inhale, or by touching an infected surface then touching your mouth or nose.

According to this article from the Cleveland Clinic, if you have a face mask on, you’re less likely to touch your mouth or nose. And like COVID-19, wearing a mask won’t prevent you from breathing in these droplets of germs. health.clevelandclinic.org/unsure-about-a…
However, if you happen to be infected, it’ll prevent your germs from going further and will remind you of good cough etiquette. Either way, wearing a mask does not CAUSE you to get pneumonia. It just prevents and limits the spread from person to person.
