Today’s a sinister anniversary: the date that, a mere 3 years after #RoeVWade legalized abortion, Rep. Henry Hyde decided “Naw, f*ck that noise” and introduced the Hyde Amendment. There’s no nicer Dr. Jekyll version of him and he hurt more people than have read that book. 1/6

The Hyde amendment bars federal funds (read: Medicaid) from being spent on abortion. Hyde couldn't deprive everyone of their abortion rights (cuz #Roe), so he settled for just depriving the poor and vulnerable. Real swell dude. 2/6

Who's affected? Only the 21% of reproductive-age women who rely on Medicaid. For some, an abortion would cost 1/3 of their family's monthly income. Hyde protects your right to choose ... between eating and having an abortion. guttmacher.org/gpr/2017/01/re… 3/6

The burden falls heaviest on POC because this is America and what doesn’t? So why don't we repeal a racist, sexist, shitty law from 44 years ago that punishes the most vulnerable? Get this: 4/6 kff.org/womens-health-…

What’s bananas is it’s not even a law! It’s a rider that’s inserted into the budget bill every year. That’s right — Congress consciously decides every year to force Americans to make the choice between pawning their stuff and keeping an unwanted pregnancy. 5/6

All because they "don't want their tax dollars paying for abortion." Guess what, buddy, we're not wild about our tax dollars paying your salary, but that's how taxes work. It's not à la carte. 44 years of discriminatory shit is enough. #BeBoldEndHyde
