The forces behind this #NIPOST License fees increase are not few.
I think one of the issues that we (Nigeria) needs to decide is whether we are a socialist country or a capitalist country.
Some big $ investments died recently in the logistics sector. One of the real causes of death was a regulation that sort of packed them along with the fragmented players in the industry.
For that sector to grow and meet customers demands (logistics and last mile delivery), we truly need big players in that field. However, it is difficult for them to survive if they are competing with Wole, Shakirah and Chinedu who has 1-2 bikes each for delivery.
The Association of Nigeria Courier Operators (ANCO) understands and seems to be fully aligned with this thinking (of course, Wole, Shakirah and Chinedu are not ANCO members - they don’t even know what they do there).
I noticed that the medium sized and large players have been quiet on this issue. Yes, your guess is as good as mine.
The challenge is that the little “socialist” spirit in me would argue that we should not kill the small players. There could be a way that certain part of the value chain could be left for such players. This could be a win-win.
The fees could be reduced significantly for the small players. Final last mile delivery could be left for the small players. Everyone could still eat at the table.
But, what do I know? 🤷🏽♂️
