Ah, yes, academia. 😃 Three men doctors created fake social media accounts to spy on other doctors. They published "scholarly" research to explain how unprofessional the doctors were for posting bikini photos. #MedKini #MedBikini
cnn.com/2020/07/25/cnn…

Excerpt from the @CNN piece: "As a female doctor, I'm incredibly aware of how sexist the medical world is. Unless women are regarded as equals, we cannot achieve full progress not just in medicine, but in any other field of occupation."

If snacking on research is your idea of fun (it is for me), here's another article for you. #MedKini #MedBikini sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

"More women than ever are pursuing surgical specialties ... The objective of this study was to examine how surgical residents experience gender-based discrimination during their residency training ..." #MedKini #MedBikini sciencedirect.com/science/articl…

I've shared my take on academia here: twannahines.com. And here's an example of an article I published ages ago re: racism & sexism in academia. This particular piece was about Freakonomics. huffpost.com/entry/freakono…

Btw, the Freakonomics dudes are the same folks who advanced the argument that crime dropped after Roe v Wade passed because all those would-be-criminals were just aborted. The underlying logic? The "kinds" of women who have abortions are the kinds of people who birth "criminals".

If you saw the #MedKini and #MedBikini article in the Journal of Vascular Surgery and thought "That's fucked up!" ... Just wait until you read what academic journal have been publishing about Black folks. 😂

Science is real, and scientists are flawed because they're human & humans are flawed. We fix it science by shoring up flaws, such as bias, prevalent among scientists & we get new scientists that don't have those same biases. #MedKini #MedBikini

And cheers to women in #STEAM, by the way! ❤ If you'd like to know more about me & how bridge tech + art in my work, here's your morning quickie read.
