#CivicEngagement: We Took A Few Bus loads of Seniors to see Just Mercy.
Engage your community young. Back in February when things were more normal, pre-corona. I saw the movie Just Mercy. (Full video instagram.com/tv/CDQ8f5fn2qj…)
It moved me to tears, and I thought about taking a group of high school students to see the movie. I spoke with @EdwardTedJames, then @dunndealbr, @edmondjordan, @dadrius.lanus, @RayJetson, and @MayorBroome.
When we reached out to two schools, AP McCurry (@Sunshine.dionne) and
Principal Dr. Angela Jones they immediately said yes. We took a few bus loads of high school juniors and seniors to see the movie, and had a meaningful conversation after.
I’m sharing this because people always ask, how do you get started. Talk to your network and just do it.
Don’t wait for someone more skilled, more connected, or more anything to do a good thing. Maybe it’s not a few buses. Maybe it’s a carload of young people. During Corona, maybe it’s a Zoom movie night. Whatever you do, don’t ever doubt that you can engage your community.
When we start young we help guide the next generation towards justice. Towards an equitable society. Toward liberty and true justice for all. Find your groove and make impact. #LetsGoHigher #KeepPushing #CivicEngagement
