Largely covering all aspects of water related basic civic infrastructure, Atal Mission for Rejuvenation & Urban Transformation #AMRUT focuses on development of storm water drains to mitigate flooding in cities/ areas of heavy rains & hilly States.

After universal coverage of water and sewerage, storm water drainage is given the next priority. Construction & maintenance of storm water drains reduces & ultimately eliminates flooding & water logging problems, thereby making cities resilient.

This includes construction of network of primary & secondary drainage, proper drainage network to identified water stagnant point/flooding points up to the end discharge point & rejuvenation of existing primary nallahs & primary drains including covering & installation of filter.

Citizens of Bhopal are breathing a sigh of relief from devastating floods after @BMCBhopal constructed dedicated Storm Water Drains for Ashok Vihar Nala, Sanjay Nagar Nala, Jaat khedi nala & Panchsheel Nagar nala under #AMRUT.

Storm Water Drains have been constructed in the hilly States of Himachal Pradesh (Shimla) & Arunachal Pradesh (Itanagar). This has come as a respite to the citizens who were otherwise stressed of the rainwater flooding.

Storm Water Drainage System built in Aizawl, Mizoram has secured citizens from monsoon floods & landslides. The storm water drains in Anantnag, J&K has resolved the issue of waterlogging in the city.

The construction of drainage system in Alappuzha, Kerala & Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, have helped resolve the issue of stagnant floodwaters as these drains help carry the storm water away from the city & helps in city flood management.

Till date, 2,795 storm water drainage projects have been grounded for construction with a total expenditure of ₹1,168 crore. #AMRUT continues to provide basic infrastructure for #TransformingUrbanLandscape & for cities to become, sustainable, resilient & smarter for a #NewIndia.
