Remember the thread which I turned into an article for @FARPostZA on the injuries resulting from lack of playing time?
Here's a quick thread on the steep spike in injuries leading up to and upon the iin the the resumption of the #PSL and the #AbsaPrem 👇🏽
In the first game back, Mpusana Tani of Bloem Celtic pulled his hamstring and had to go off. Both Celtic and Baroka had not reported any injuries or absentees prior to the resumption of football.
Onto Mamelodi Sundowns who saw SIX players injured or nursing strains when they returned to training. Ngcongca, Ngoma, Mabunda, Makgalwa, Lebusa and Seabi experienced some form of strain or injury.
Wits have been badly affected. Thabang Monare and Gift Motupa both had injuries while they also had an unconfirmed number of players testing positive for Covid 19. On top of that, they had a player hijacked prior to the resumption.
For Orlando Pirates, their biggest injury loss was Bongani Sam who suffered a hamstring strain while Justin Shonga and Thembinkosi Lorch are unavailable due to breach of BSE protocols.
Supersport had one player who tested positive for Covid 19 who has had to be left out of the BSE squad. They have no reported injuries thus far.
Thus far, Chiefs have a clean bill of health and have not reported any injuries but did have three players who had to be substituted due to cramp which influenced substitutions.
There is no doubt that we will continue to see injuries and in my opinion, the club at the biggest advantage in this situation is Sundowns. Their incredible squad depth coupled with five substitutions puts them in pole position to win the league.
I forgot to add Brandon Petersen who was injured for Wits and is expected to miss the rest of the season.
Either way, I hope the fans are prepared for some crazy results and some poor, disjointed performances from their teams.
I'll add to this thread as the season goes on and the rate of games ratchets up.
