Charlie Kirk may think he is smart for creating a conservative rejoinder to #microaggressions with
the label “micro-tyranny.” Alas, his @WashTimes piece is not the first to use it. 1/x washingtontimes.com/news/2020/aug/…
Before those examples, this piece is paired with a recent episode of Kirk’s podcast - which I haven’t listened to. He may give credit there. I doubt it. But on to the others he is copying 2/x
First is the 2015 column by Thomas Sowell - an often quoted source for Kirk: 3/x ff.org/micro-tyranny-…
Next is a 2009 piece on @shadowproofcom by Glenn W Smith 4/x shadowproof.com/2009/08/02/dow…
Such language is also used by a progressive on @tikkunonline in 2012 5/x tikkun.org/tikkundaily/20…
Also used in 2006 Seattle newspaper column 6/x blog.seattlepi.com/realestate/200…
And finally also by Canadian conservative pundit Mark Steyn in his 2011 book After America 7/x books.google.com/books/about/Af…
Sorry, not final. Most recently used in April 2020 on conservative @EWErickson website @resurgent 8/x theresurgent.com/2020/04/13/mic…
This particular piece echoes Kirk’s commentary on pandemic related behaviors: “Another thing that Americans are not going to tolerate is the tendency of some elected officials to stray into tyrannical behaviors which unnecessarily restrict people’s activities....” 9/x
After the intellectual laziness, Kirk ends: “To stop our slide into tyranny we are going to have to stand up and fight back...” Our choices “will determine if we are to remain a constitutional republic or the next failed communist experiment.” I say: Right. Now do Trump. End/
