2/5 #COVID19 can be severe. Hospitalisation data, available for >81,000 (67%) cases in 🇨🇦 indicates that >11,000 (14%) people developed severe illness requiring hospitalization, with 2,300 (20%) of these people admitted to critical care.
3/5 Data from Canada’s national hospital-based surveillance systems indicate that #COVID19 hospital stays increase with age, with those aged ≥ 60 years remaining in hospital for an average of 16 days.
4/5 #OlderAdults and those with underlying medical conditions are at highest risk for severe illness. More than half of hospitalised cases in 🇨🇦 are >70 years of age and 85% had one or more underlying medical condition.
