Excited to report that the @AmerAcadPeds resolution, Prohibit the Use of Race-Based Medicine, I submitted & adapted from my MN colleagues @dr_okah & @AndreaWestbyMD’s groundbreaking work, not only passed but was a Top 10 selection!!

This resolution calls for:
1️⃣ the Academy to end the practice of using race as a proxy for biology or genetics in all their educational events & literature, &
2️⃣ require race be explicitly characterized as a social construct when describing risk factors for disease with all presentations at AAP sponsored conferences including a slide certifying their content does not teach race-based medicine
We noted that the AAP publishes 800+ titles for parents & pediatric professionals, organizes & hosts dozens of CME courses & the journal Pediatrics reaches all 67,000+ AAP members in print & millions more digitally.
The commitment to address this is therefore a significant one🙌🏾
Thanks to my @mnaap & @AmerAcadPeds colleagues for their support of this significant step, made possible by the work of so many others, especially @DorothyERoberts. I look forward to the work ahead to make this statement a reality✊🏾
