Today: David Coon announced, if elected, he would allow a designated family caregiver for nursing home residents, someone trained in covid protocols who could visit their loved one more often.
PC candidate/social development minister Dorothy Shephard responded to that...
She said nursing homes will "hear some news today that they can begin to start having intentional visitors that will be designated for each family member."

I just spoke to the NB Association of Nursing Homes. They have not received communication that a change has been made yet.
They say David Coon's model is similar to one in Ontario, that existed before COVID. Dorothy Shephard's model is similar to one in PEI.

Both would require special funding for homes to be able to train/guide family members. And both would result in a family member (or two) who could have direct contact with a resident. Which means hugs could happen, with masks on. #nbpoli
It's a government/public health decision, ultimately. There are discussions happening but neither model have been rolled out to the nursing home sector yet. @nbpoli
