In medieval times society was dominated by a warrior class (providing the muscle & wielding the power of the sword) in coalition with a priestly class, which provided the brains & wielded the power of the Word, i.e. moral authority, based on sacred scripture & church ideology.

In countries like Britain, the warrior class, i.e. the military, no longer plays a political role, which is how it should be.

Power now lies with those who wield moral authority & capital, whether in the hands of the state or private.

It is indeed all about POWER.

Power does not lie with the people, as supposed, but, as ever, with the elites. Notwithstanding the facade of democratic government, what we actually have is government of the elites, by the elites, for the elites, which is inherently unjust, inhumane, & unsustainable.

In the West, we enjoy some vitally important freedoms, giving us the potential to radically reform the state & government, so that they really do serve society at large & its long-term survival, rather than just the narrow & short-sighted self-interests of its elites.

The pursuit of narrow & short-sighted self-interests, not just by society's elites, but by everyone, is driving our civilisation towards extinction. But no one - least of all amongst our elites - wants to recognise this, & thus don't.

#ClimateChange is a symptom of this.

However, addressing the symptoms will not save us from extinction. We have to recognise & develop an understanding of their root cause, which lies in the perversion of evolved human nature by the abuse of power facilitated by #BigBrother & #TheMatrix of state & capital.

#BigBrother & #TheMatrix are analogies, of course, which I have taken from well-known sources, & find very useful in helping to understand our situation.
