Yesterday's BC govt announcement on old growth forests is beyond disappointing. Not sure if anyone is following it, given everything else that is going on. But oh man. Where to start. #bcpoli #oldgrowth
I'm listening in on a thread by BC forest scientists: "While this is more good news than we have seen in nearly 20 yrs it's too little too late, & just imagine how much old growth has been devoured since the NDP took power? Plus these are only deferrals not solid protection yet"
Vs "This is not a "new approach." It's more of the same "talk & log." Are they putting aside real old growth that was to be logged? Or is it the old bait & switch? The entire system has to change incl. the way BC NDP continues to delay & consult, delay & consult, delay & consult"
..There's a great press release from Ken Wu of Endangered Ecosystems Alliance (also founder of @AncientForestBC) on the BC NDP govt's new "Old Growth Strategy' which may interest anyone interested in BC's #OldGrowth forests. Worth a read. endangeredecosystemsalliance.org/news/2020/9/11… #bcpoli
..The overall consensus is that ALL remaining old growth - which is scant - must be protected now, there needs to be a far more thorough overhaul of BC forest mgmt, & esp in light of climate change the current system isn't remotely close to sustainable, forests won't be resilient

Lots of different takes on this announcement, but I'm inclined to side with the skeptical. Also, never trust a BC govt announcement that comes on a Friday.
