Sept. 13
Two more Iowans have died from coronavirus, pushing total to 1,218 since first death on March 24.
Deaths were reported in Polk and Webster Counties.
Please mourn the dead, support loved ones and caregivers, and help stop the spread of this deadly infectious disease.
Hospitalizations for COVID-19 were down to 274, the lowest level since August 23. (Sadly, 184 Iowans have died of the disease since then.)
Intensive care use was down to 79.
There were 36 new admissions to Iowa hospitals for COVID-19 in the last 24-hours reporting period.
Between Sept. 12 at 10 am and Sept. 13 at 10 am, there were 814 new cases of coronavirus confirmed in Iowa, pushing the total to 74,361.
Subtracting deaths (1,218) and "recoveries" (53,120), there are now 20,023 active cases - the first day over 20,000 and highest number yet!
The 814 new cases were confirmed on 5,690 reported tests (from 694,782 to 700,472), for a "positive" rate of 14.3%.
The state did not update the number of Iowa kids under age 18 who have tested positive yesterday, so I hope we will get an update later today.
As of Friday, September 11, that number was 5,363, up 1,548 since August 22.
The 77 counties where Gov. Reynolds first loosened Iowa's limited restrictions May 1 without an alternative safety plan were up 388 new cases for total of 27,751.
