There’s this Aunty of mine who I believe must have been tragically born in a party. If there is anything constant in her life it would be events. Every time I hear her name it must have something to do with Ankara, Gele, Cap material & associated costs. 🎉 #DaringCovid19
From Ikorodu to Ijebu, Benin to Abuja and back to Port Harcourt while circling back to Lagos to recalibrate no weekend is spared ever even if there is a looming natural disaster, she’ll confront it. The show must always go on in her books. Imagine her dilemma in the past months.
So this woman has been calling my phone frantically in the past weeks. It was unusual because our only connection was my mum & since she passed years ago, we have cancelled our annual Ikorodu Christmas party which she took charge of gloriously & prepares budget for religiously.
I decided to call her back to find out what the “39 missed Calls” were about (without counting the 29 others made to wifey, who often times get forced to listen to Ijebu on steroids without consideration of the fact that she doesn’t even speak Yoruba). 🤷♀️
She started off by apologizing for not reaching out earlier, having been preoccupied with restrategizing how to navigate her events without allowing the lockdowns cramp her style. She then went straight to notify me that our Ankara and Gele/Cap material is ready for collection.
I was confused. We have no event on the radar and even if, this is the wrong number for social events. I rarely attend & hardly do uniforms. I then asked her if she realizes #Covid19 is out there & Govt is doing all they can to curb the pandemic spread. She laughed hysterically!
She put it to me that the past 2 weeks had been a ball. That all her weekends had been filled with huge events and there is nothing like #Covid19 in the SW for that matter. This came out like she just got off the plane from the World Health Organisation with a white paper.
Now, I don’t mind giving her the money for the materials, of which I really don’t care if they ever get delivered or what the party is about but would this not be enabling bad behavior? I’m certain that this time, we may likely be planning a funeral afterwards. 😞
