Three more Iowans have died from COVID-19, pushing total to 1,221 since first death on March 24.
Deaths were reported in Black Hawk, Mahaska, and Woodbury Counties.

On a day when three more Iowans have died from COVID-19, hospitalizations for that disease were down 2 to 272, including 75 in intensive care units.
There were 34 new admissions to Iowa hospitals for COVID-19 in the last 24-hour reporting period.
Between Sept. 13 at 10 am and Sept. 14 at 10 am, there were 406 new cases of COVID-19 reported, pushing Iowa's total to 74,767.
Subtracting deaths (1,221) and "recoveries" (53,319), there are now 20,227 active cases - the highest number yet - one out of every 156 Iowans!
The 406 new cases were confirmed on 3,210 new tests (from 700,472 to 703,682), for a rate showing COVID-19 of 12.6%.
The state should be updating the number of Iowa kids who have tested positive at or after 11 a.m. - that number stands at 5,554, up 1,739 since August 22.
The 77 counties where Gov. Reynolds first loosened Iowa's limited restrictions May 1, without an alternative safety plan, were up 192 new cases for total of 27,943.
One more death was reported for a total of 399.
As of April 30, they had 559 total cases and 11 total deaths.

No new cases: Adair, Adams, Cass, Cherokee, Clayton, Emmet, Greene, Humboldt, Jefferson, Monona, Monroe, Montgomery, Pocahontas, Ringgold, Shelby, Taylor, Union, Van Buren, Wayne, and Wright, while . . .
Clarke, Decatur, Fremont, and Keokuk were each adjusted down one.
Best day in the state: Monona with no new cases on 70 tests.
Least testing: Decatur had 0 new tests reported and several (Adams, Fremont, Ringgold, Union) had one new test reported.

We need to get new cases down and testing up for effective tracing, testing, and isolation efforts, and to protect more vulnerable people (health care, long-term care, corrections, food workers, etc.).

Another 53 Iowa kids under age 18 have tested positive for coronavirus, pushing the total to 5,607.
That's up 1,069 since September 1.
That's up 1,792 since August 22.
Must do more to protect kids, families, staff, and the public.
