In view of the massively increasing number of corona infections in France, two particularly affected metropolitan areas are tightening the measures:
In the administrative districts around Marseille in the south and Bordeaux in the west of the country, among other things, meetings and visits to old people's homes are being restricted, as the responsible prefectures announced.
Events with more than a thousand participants will be prohibited there in the future. So far, the upper limit was 5000. Citizens were also called on to avoid private gatherings with more than ten participants.
In addition, significantly fewer visitors are allowed in old people's homes in order to protect risk groups. The Prefect responsible for Marseille Christophe Mirmand also threatened to close beaches and other public places from 8 p.m. if the situation did not improve.
In Marseille and Bordeaux, the corona warning value of 50 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants was massively exceeded within a week.
