Brautigam with some breaking COVID news
There has recently been a "dramatic increase" in cases, particularly at CU and on the Hill, particularly those in group houses (frats, sororities), etc. she says.
"This recent spike has caused great concerns."
30 min ago, BoCo Public Health recommending "in the strongest possible terms" that all CU students remain quarantined for the next 14 days.
Brautigam: Quarantine defined as "staying in your home" except for in-person labs and classes, or medical needs, helping your family, etc.
If you go out, you are to be wearing a facial mask and social distancing.
"This takes effect immediately," Brautigam says. She's doing an emergency order tomorrow that certain properties — ID'd by police as troublesome — will be subject to the quarantine as well.
Starting a walk-up testing facility for all BoCo residents "but primarily we hope CU students will attend" in the city's Pleasant Street parking lot on the Hill, Brautigam says
Also working on a drive-up facility in Boulder.
This and the walk-up testing will be free, according to Brautigam.
Walk-up will be open tomorrow; drive-up will take longer.
"This happened really quickly," Mayor Weaver says. Many meetings over the weekend, according to Brautigam.
Friend: How long will free walk-up and drive-up testing be available? That's been lacking in the community.
Brautigam: No determination on the drive-up, but walk-up testing will be available for 14 days.
Friend: Can CU kids still exercise with housemates? How strict is this quarantine?
Carr: They can engage in recreational activities alone. They can go for a run or bike ride.
Friend: What's the enforcement?
Carr: The county says if it doesn't work, they'll make it mandatory. Modeled after another university; if voluntary doesn't work, they'll move to mandatory (which would be subject to enforcement)
Joseph: Is it all students? Or just those who live on the Hill?
Brautigam: Not for people in a different city but...
Sarah Huntley: My understanding is the wording of the recommendation says "local" and the intention of the health dept is students who live in the city of Boulder.
