Ok #academic twitter has anyone seen or done any comparisons between the Dust Bowl's "black blizzards" that reached the east coast and todays wildfire smoke? #envirocrisis #climatecrisis #wildfires #enviromentalhistory
2/4 I can't help seeing connections between the Dust Bowl and today's wildfires. Both can be viewed as climate events, both, in many ways, human caused with environmental causes and mis-management of resources, use of land, etc.
3/4 While each crisis was/is regionally based, each one effected people far beyond the region of origin. We saw people lose their homes, farms in OK, TX, etc during the DB. Now, we are seeing it on the West coast.
What are the long term implications of the wildfires? How will images and stories be leveraged to help us understand enviro change? What can be done at the policy level? What kinds of art/literature will this crisis generate? (just a few of the ?s one could ask. What are others?
