#SANDERS CONCEDED THE RACE 3/11, said millions decided his "friend Joe #Biden" was more likely to beat Trump. No blaming the #DNC, no cries of rigged election. He began: my #1 goal is defeating Trump. Time for ALL #Sanders fans & #dems to unite.…
#Bernie counted on overperforming w/ young voters, but nearly 3% fewer people under 30 voted in 20 compared to 16. This was the only demographic group where Sanders had an advantage. The drop in youth vote & the surge in ALL OTHER groups (who voted #Biden) cost Sanders the race.
#Sanders earned LESS of the vote in EVERY RACE in '20 when compared to '16. On average, he underperformed by 17.6%. He did 35.4% worse in VT. He was down 10.9% in #DemocratsAbroad primary this weekend.

Thread | While some people enjoyed #hailstorm in #Delhi with their children, a 10-year-old in Uttar Pradesh feared what his father (farmer) will do when he will see the destroyed crops in the morning.

This fear-stricken child assures his father that he will study hard and bring him out of the vicious cycle of farm loans. This child’s father – a landless farmer lost all his crops.

Now he has to pay rent for the land, arrange money from a private lender to buy the seeds again and restart his life.

Senator @ewarren has, in an absurd turn of events, been duped by the establishment to weaponize Bernie’s online popularity against him, as an excuse for her silent endorsement of @joebiden!

In her post-“Super Tuesday” interview with @maddow, @ewarren comforted her core supporter base by showing her continued commitment to both help working families and fight for a female President.

@ewarren also gave voice to victims of online harassment, including publication of personal information, and pointed a finger at the campaign of @berniesanders specifically, feeding into the #BernieBros narrative.

Along with the #ClimateCrisis, biodiversity loss is the most pressing problem we face today. But it’s hard to understand what this even means.

So here’s a crash-course by @tamarstelling!

This is what the Earth’s living layer actually consists of 1/:
Last May, the @IPBES – like, the United Nations for biodiversity and ecosystems – stated: " a million species are threatened with extinction".

Crap! 💩 But… what is a species? How many do we have and how many have we lost? And how did we not notice this happening?! 2/
We don’t know how many species exist for three reasons:

1. We haven’t discovered all life on earth yet

2. We may accidentally have *rediscovered* some species. Several times (... oops)

3. Biologists disagree about what a species actually *is*

#Biden was 1st to introduce a #ClimateChange bill. His 1986 Global Climate Protection Act died in committee, but Reagan signed a version of into law when Biden successfully attached it as an amendment to a State Dept funding bill. /thread…
#Biden, introducing his #GlobalWarming bill in Jan 1987: "Life on this planet exists only under highly specialized circumstances" & "even a small rise in temperature could disrupt the entire complicated environment that has nurtured life as we know it." @PolitiFact
In 1/87 Senate speech, #Biden said #ClimateChange was a bigger threat than the USSR: Reagan told Gorbachev "‘that if we had an invasion from Mars, both sides would put aside our differences.’ While not an exterrestrial threat, global warming could prove no less dangerous."

Canceled events, education moving online, retooling university labs. Even if it is not perfect, even if it could be much faster, deeper, better co-ordinated, and more science-based, do you see how, in a crisis some of our systems can change? #Coronavirus
Watch the nimbleness (such as it is) of big systems (education, companies, government) and move up your lowest bar of expectations of them for the climate crisis to at least that level.
Notice the things we 'couldn't do' that we seem, actually, able to do, or at least willing to try, like virtual conference. Notice that money is moving (maybe not enough, but some.) Plans are being made. Trade-offs are being considered.

Dear brothers/ sisters/ Sir/ Madam,

Stop all propaganda to bully me. I’m not against anyone. I just wants system change, not climate change.

I don’t expect anything from anyone except I want our leaders to listen my voice.

I believe my rejection will helps to listen my voice.
And also,
Dear politicians & political parties,

I don’t need appreciation for this. Instead ask your MPs to rise my voice at the ongoing Parliament session. Never attempt to use me for your political gains and propagandas. don’t appreciate it. I’m not in your favour.
Your MPs also dumb, deaf and blind. Nothing more or less by Government ruling MPs. This is complete failure. Act Now. #ClimateCrisis

“The IPCC report is a slightly dishonest take on the situation because it achieves 1.5° only with immense negative emissions, which will never happen at global scale. Not a good answer to an existential threat to civilisation.”

“We scientists publish in papers nobody can read, except some colleagues. And society gives us billions of euros so we can play with our curiosity. That’s not good enough. In times of deep crisis, scientists have to take a stance.”

People who think that @BernieSanders gets us closer to @AndrewYang's vision for America don't actually understand Yang's vision for America: A Thread

#YangGang #EndorseUBI
#Bernie2020 #NotMeUs

First of all, #Yang wants a unified America. One where there isn't a huge political divide and so much hate and conflict. He doesn't alienate anyone.

#Bernie is incredibly divisive and angry and will only cause tensions to rise if given the nomination or the presidency.

The #FederalJobsGuarantee goes against Yang's vision because #Yang wants to redefine work in an age where jobs are being automated away and where work that has intrinsic human value isn't being recognized by the market.

Tonight on @abc730 @leighsales asked some serious questions of Scott Morrison on #climatechange. However, there are some additional questions it would have been great if she'd asked...

#auspol #ClimateCrisis
@abc730 @leighsales 1. You talk about not wanting anyone to lose their job - what about the thousands of people who are losing their job in the #renewables industry right now due to the lack of policy certainty and the lack of a plan to decarbonise our electricity sector? Do their jobs not count?
@abc730 @leighsales 2. Scientists say that your current plan to cut emissions by 2030 will lead to warming of more than 3 degrees - much higher than the Paris targets - what is the cost of more than 3degrees of warming to the Australian economy?

I heard someone say that looking at data on number of #coronavirus cases is like looking at a star in the night sky - what you are seeing is never a current picture, but always a snapshot of events in the past. A thread on delay in complex systems from epidemics to #ClimateCrisis
Important delays in the coronavirus system appear to be on the order of days to weeks.

Important delays in the climate system are on the order of years to centuries.

To understand the urgency of climate action watch the havoc that delay causes in the coronavirus situation.
What do I mean by delays? For the virus:

Biological delays: the time between infection and onset of symptoms or the time that virus particles remain infectious on surfaces.

Social delays: between events happening and their being reported or the public adopting new habits

1/5 It can be difficult to keep up with the ever-changing world of #ClimateSolutions, and not all “solutions” are inherently equitable or just. Fortunately, we’ve identified four straight-forward questions that can help you separate false solutions from the real deal:
2/5 Who makes the decisions?
Those closest to the problems know the most about what the solutions need to look like. For any climate solution to work for Indigenous peoples, communities of color, and working class communities, it must embody the practice of self-determination.
3/5 Who benefits?
The climate crisis is ecological, but it has its roots in systemic inequity that is both racial and economic. To address these root causes, authentic solutions must flip the existing dynamics around racial injustice, wealth extraction, and labor exploitation.

Climate change will likely lead to:
1. Food and water shortages
2. Pandemic disease
3. Disputes over refugees
4. Disputes over resources
5. Destruction by natural disaster.

If Trudeau approves the largest oil sands mine in history – then tries to punch through B.C. with two publicly subsidized pipeline projects – I think Canada will enter a protracted period of civil unrest. #cdnpoli #climatecrisis #RejectTeck…
That's not a threat, just an observation. It's 2020. Youth and many others feel enormous urgency to deal seriously with the climate crisis.

Instead our politicians are using our tax dollars to finance more and more and more oil and gas expansion. We're on a collision course.
Voters in Québéc (perhaps because oil industry propaganda has been less effective over the last 10 years in French) are dead-set against their tax dollars being used to expand the oil industry.

Trudeau has a minority government. 35 of those seats are in Québéc. #cdnpoli
