Looks like the #NHS #TestAndTrace #contactTracing app is finally here. Why did it take them so long?

It's of less utility to me right now given my #longcovid has me effectively housebound due to symptoms, but interesting to see the process of setting it up 1/n

Now I realise why I saw QR codes displayed at entrances to cafes etc over the summer 2/n

"We use automated-decision making to help determine which other users need to be anonymously alerted" - I wonder how accurate these automated decisions will be? 3/n

I can see why some people might not want this enabled, especially if they don't fully understand what's actually happening here with this process 4/n

During setup, I had to enter the first 3 digits of my postcode, and then the home screen of the app tells you the risk level for your neighbourhood. I don't know what risk level of MEDIUM means though? 5/n

I tap to find out more information about my area risk level. It doesn't seem to tell me to do anything different from what I'm already doing, in terms of taking precautions 6/n

I see that some are already confusing this NHS Test and Trace app with the NHS app (for booking GP appointments etc) that has already existed for a while. Will be interesting to see if a negative perception of the Test and Trace app will lead to fewer new users of the NHS app 7/n

So the Test and Trace app I've downloaded this morning is only for England/Wales (i.e. not the entire UK) - I really hope the NHS is fully transparent and publish regular updates as to how many people are downloading the app (and actually keep using it or uninstall it) /end

My understanding is that if you have an older iPhone (such as 6 or 5S) then your phone won’t be compatible with the #NHSCOVID19app as those phones can’t get iOS 13.5

I was trying to determine how many older iPhones in UK would be incompatible with the #NHSCOVID19app - the only thing I could find was this article with estimated sales data. It's the phones launched in 2011-2014 that are not compatible finder.com/uk/iphone-sale…
