After approval by the budget committee of the German Bundestag, Diehl Defense received an order for the delivery of further GBU-54 precision bombs to the German Air Force.
Around 2290 steering systems and detonators as well as 910 bombs are being purchased for around 213 million euros (1380 bombs that can receive the steering kit are already in stock). Test material and training materials are also part of the contract volume.
The Boeing Laser JDAM (Joint Direct Attack Munition) is guided, all-weather capable and intended for short range. With a mass of around 230 kilograms, the explosive force is only half that of the GBU-48.
The combination of INS / GPS navigation, laser search head and target lighting enables precise operations against stationary and mobile targets even in unfavorable weather conditions.
