When the government launched the public consultation on proposals to amend the GRA they stated: “We particularly want to hear from women’s groups who we know have expressed some concerns about the implications of our proposals.” assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/upl…
“...this consultation focuses on GRA; we are not proposing to amend Equality Act 2010 and protections contained within it. We do realise, however, that there are concerns about interactions between the two Acts & we want to use this consultation as a way of gathering these views"
Woman’s Place UK, along with several other groups and organisations, worked hard to make sure that women knew about this consultation and how to take part. For this, women were subject to abuse, threat and ostracization.
Since 2018, we have organised 27 public meetings around the UK. Nearly every meeting has been met with opposition and obstruction including the spread of lies about our campaign, abuse of women who spoke or attended, and aggressive, threatening protests. womansplaceuk.org/a-record-of-wo…
We are proud of the work we have done to ensure women had their voices heard. We are continuing to organise meetings – online during Covid. We are glad to be part of a growing movement of women and grass-roots organisations who are fighting for women’s rights.
We want to thank everyone who attended, publicised, tweeted, supported, spoke and helped out at the meetings we have organised so far.
