As we complete the 6th year of SBM-U on the 151st birth anniversary of #MahatmaGandhi, we reflected on activities that have made #SwachhBharat a Jan Andolan. Was delighted to participate in Inaugural Session chaired by Hon’bl MoS at National Webinar on #SwachhataKe6SaalBemisaal
We have travelled an exciting journey in achieving the #Swachhata parameters to pay a befitting tribute to Bapu, who during his life time, espoused wholeheartedly swachhata & never hesitated to pick up a broom to clean a dirty place or even a public toilet.
It is a great achievement in itself that every citizen of urban India has come together to make the dream of #SwachhBharat, envisioned by Hon’ble Prime Minister, a reality. Our streets, neighbourhoods, water bodies are cleaner; our cities & citizens healthier.
SBM-U has brought about a marked increase in the livelihoods of our sanitation workers & informal waste pickers, who come from some of the most economically vulnerable & marginalized communities.
Under Swachh Survekshan, lakhs of contractual employees have secured employment as Swachhata Warriors with ULBs & over 5 lakh Safai Karmis have been able to receive the benefits of various Schemes of Government(s).
Our development partners viz. USAID, BMGF, GIZ, UNDP & UNIDO have supported us in this phenomenal journey of 6 years. Their technical assistances have been quite crucial in the success of the Mission.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks & congratulate all the stakeholders including State Governments, public representatives/ officials of cities, citizens, civil societies, Swachhagrahis & most importantly swachhata warriors!
We will further this cause more intensely, taking it higher & higher from our learnings to make a cleaner & healthier India now on!
#SwachhataKe6SaalBemisaal.
