100,000,000 Years Ago: on Earth, the Cretaceous (in conventional reality). In the afterlife portion of U7, the North Kaio’s planet already exists at this time. The Kaioshin (Supreme Kai) is assisted by four Kaio (non-Supreme Kai), who monitor the NSEW areas of U7. #HistoryofEver
(The planet anachronistically pictured here in its smaller, post-Beerus form, but whaddaya expect?)
North Kaio’s planet can be reached via the million kilometer Snake Way that stretches over Hell. Has anyone ever crossed it? The oni who drives Goku there thinks that King Yama (Yemma) is the only one to have made the trip, and that this was within the last 100 million years.
DBZ ep.14 filler says King Yama crossed the road and met Princess Snake a mere 500 years ago. Not quite a direct contradiction, but in that case it makes you wonder the significance of the “100 million years” figure. Is that just Snake Way’s age?
The Daizenshuu 7 timeline’s entry on 100,000,000 Years Ago says “Kaio’s planet is confirmed to exist”, apparently based on the oni’s line and the assumption that he wouldn’t say “in the last 100 million years” if Snake Way and Kaio’s planet haven’t been around at least that long.
Early fan translations of the daizenshuu timeline mistranslated this entry as “the earliest Kaioshin are thought to exist” (mistaking 界王星/Kaio’s planet for 界王神/Kaioshin/Supreme Kai), a mistake you still see around to this very day. dragonball.fandom.com/wiki/Dragon_Ba…
(Speaking of mistranslation, even the Funi subtitles messed up by having the oni say a billion years rather than 100 million, although this was corrected in later releases)
At 100 million years, this is far enough back to be the very first entry in Daizenshuu 7’s timeline, and therefore the earliest thing mentioned pre-DBS. But DBS ep.5 unseats it by having Beerus claim to have lived for “hundreds of millions of years”.
If Beerus is that old, then presumably the Kaioshin as a group are too (although Beerus’ career has extended through several different Kaioshin generations), and so too are the angels and Zeno. Presumably.
Tomorrow: a handsome young Kaioshin.
