Students at Pimlico Academy school are leaving school early because of the protest today.

They are staggering the different year groups out.

Embrassing day for school hierarchy powerful day for students who made the school stand up and pay attention.

1/5
Just spoke with to two year 11 students @ #PimlicoAcademy

They said the school avoided the elephant in the room + said nothing to the students, sent an email to the parents saying they would close early + the leadership (the reason for the protests) hid out of sight all day

2/5 They said problems started with new head teacher 'who seemed to be on a mission'.

He tried to implement Christian hymns, tried to over-emphasis 'British values' in a manner that alienated senior staff who left and were subsequently replaced by like minded ideologues.

3/5 They said the protest began on snap chat because they had had 'enough'.

30 teachers had left, many of them extremely popular.

Final straw was the rule that hair that interferes with the students' eye line must be cut.

Many felt this was a clear attack on black students.

4/5 Petition by students ignored. School teaches about democracy, in theory, but doesn't practice it.

Popular teachers left and are leaving, particularly drama teacher who has been there 30 years. Students feel this will have impact on the standards of teaching @ #PimlicoAcademy

5/5 Finally this 18-year-old sixth-form student from #pimlicoacademy can explain what's going on much better than I can.

She has 2 follower on twitter. Let's change that @Nativebaeby.

She is the future that the school's leadership has been accused of ignoring and alienating.

She had a lot more to say but my phone battery just died.

I asked @Nativebaeby how she felt about the protests at #pimlicoacademy just 10 minutes away from #Westminster where a new gov report has alleged '#institutionalracism doesn’t exist' in the UK.

Sad to hear such a bright student like @native_baeby say she does not feel welcome in #pimlicoacademy anymore.

She said 40% of the teachers had left and more are expected to leave.

Sounds like a crisis.

@GavinWilliamson, education secretary, what do you plan to do about this?

Some parents also showed up today to support to their children.

They said "things need to change or he (the headmaster) needs to go".
