Ensuring diversity - acc21.virtual-acc.org/engage-channel/

Come listen to these wonderful talks in how we strengthen diversity -

#ACC21

I love the advice to have cross professional recruiting, e.g. include other #ACCCVT in recruiting physicians and vice-versa.

#ACC21

Make interprofessional practice a baseline. Implement this early and foundational to curricula.

Make it "a thing" to utilize the strengths of team members in care.

Respect the title! All have earned theirs. Introduce by title in front of the patient

Next up - @HeartBobH. Reminder - here is the link: acc21.virtual-acc.org/engage-channel/

#DEI #CardioTwitter -
The science has shown that diversity makes a better!

#ACC21

Whoa. Budgets reflect the investment that systems, departments, etc. are putting into programs.

What are you budgeting for? Is diversity a focus?

#ACC21

What you don't measure you can't/won't change.

Measure the diversity. Recognize the missed opportunities. Make a plan and invest in change.

#ACC21

Broaden your "Lens". If all you know is what you know, that is all that you will know. Important insight from @HeartBobH - the Lens representative (applied for and funded position) - They would not have known about candidates without this extra perspective.

#ACC21

How committed are you to success of diversity once you have decided to implement and place in budget?

Plan for support. Provide resources for success!

#ACC21

This. Is. Important. --- Look at your advancement and compensation regularly/routinely.

#ACC21

Visibility and Recognition. Normalize and celebrate diversity. Be intentional about this.

#ACC21

🙌🙌🙌👏👏👏

#ACC21

Not only within the system. Broadcast, leverage social media to highlight and make visible diversity!

#ACC21

Leadership should reflect the population.

Recognize and be Pro-active in dismantling structural racism.

#ACC21

Next up - @DrRachelMBond - equipping your personal antiracism toolkit

Link to session: acc21.virtual-acc.org/engage-channel/

#ACC21

Out of the gate, we cannot just alone be 'non-racist', we must pro-actively combat this.

#ACC21

How do we pro-actively address racism in training?

Not just reduce the interactions (e.g. have trainee leave)., intercede, build up the education/knowledge, place on team of trainee. Make it clear, racism is NOT acceptable.

#ACC21

Normalize that we "step-up" for one another. That intercession and correction of racism is what we do.

#ACC21

#Implicitbias and anti-racism needs to be embedded in our curricula, early.

#ACC21

I love this, prepare and plan ahead what actions will be taken for microagressions, racism, etc.

#ACC21

Recognize that we all have #implicitbias, there is a continuum, from fear to learning, and finally growth to understanding moving towards action.

#ACC21

Be an ally!

Be aware, listen. Actively support and recruit. Care.

#ACC21

This quote stands on its own.

#ACC21 - @NMHheartdoc provided a talk at #NCToday that resonates. #Implicitbias is something we all carry about many many things.
We. ALL. Have. Implicit Biases.

1) Recognize it exists
2) Identify what ours are - sociocultural etc.
3) Mitgate, mitigate, mitigate

Thank you to the entire session team. I have been well-taught. Now, to get out and continue to be active!
