28,773 new cases and 37 new deaths reported throughout the today UK, which is the highest both figures have been in a while.

Also I've included a thread below covering some of the figures over the past week!

#Covid19UK #coronavirusuk #DailyCovidUpdate

First here are the cases, which are still rising throughout the UK.

They do appear to be peaking in Scotland, although the cases in Scotland have been rising for a lot longer, and are at a much higher rate than the rest of the UK.

So the UK wide peak may not be so close

At a local level cases are rising in all parts of the UK.

The North East of England are currently seeing the highest rates though, and have had quite the surge in the past week.

At a local authority level, Dundee City has the highest rates.

Globally, just over 2.7 million new cases were reported in the past week, which is up 3% from the previous week.

The big increases are really coming from Europe now, where a lot of countries (other than just the UK/Russia/Spain/Portugal) are now starting to see case rates rise

Scotland no longer has the highest per capita case rate in Europe, as Cyprus has overtook us. But we still have the second highest rate, and fourth highest worldwide rate..

Only four countries have reported more cases in total than the UK over the past week

Deaths in the UK are rising, but thankfully still nowhere near as fast as cases are.

They are still highest in Scotland and the North West of England (as a result of those two areas having the highest case rates in recent weeks)

Globally, just over 56,000 new deaths from the virus were reported in the past week, which is down 3% from the previous week.

We are probably going to reach 4 million total recorded deaths from the virus in the next few days. The true figure of course will be higher 😞

The number of people in hospital and icu/ventilation with the virus is continuing to rise, and seems to be rising at a faster rate now too.

Although the current figures are only a fraction of what we have seen at previous peaks

You can see how the number of people in hospital with the virus is rising fastest in Scotland, and slowest in Wales.

Which I imagine will be a direct result of Scotland having the highest case rates recently, and Wales the lowest.

The number of vaccinations being administered each day is still slowing down.

First doses in particularly have seen a fairly sharp decrease over the past few weeks, which is disappointing.

Not too sure if that is a supply issue, or a lack of demand/people left

But our overall progress up to now is still great!

We're almost at 70% of the entire UK having their first dose, and 50% having their second dose. Those figures will be higher when you just look at the adult population too.

Globally, almost 244 million new vaccinations were reported in the past week!

Iceland, Greenland, and Portugal have been doing the most over the past week. It looks like good progress is being made in most places outside of Africa/ Oceania

A few more countries have now passed the 100 vaccinations per 100 population mark, including Canada! The USA is at 99.9, so they're just about in the club too. 😎

Nearly all of Europe had administered at least 75 vaccinations per 100 pop!

The UAE recently updated their figures (which had been out of date for a while) and have now moved ahead of Wales to be the most (first dose) vaccinated country with over a million population. Boo!

Although being second is still a fantastic achievement. As is being third!

And finally here are the ONS death figures for this week. The number of deaths is just about the same as last week, although excess deaths are down quite a bit.

70% of the new deaths reported this week were Male, which I thought was quite odd. Normally it is around 55%

That is all for now!

Its nice to see that cases in Scotland appear to be peaking, but I've got no clue how this will all play out in England or in the rest of Europe over the next month or so. Especially with 'freedom day' coming up

Hopefully not too badly anyways!
